Labor Day 2026 was Monday, September 7. The next one is Monday, September 6, 2027. Labor Day is always the first Monday in September.

A lot of stores use Labor Day for end-of-summer sales. This page covers what’s usually worth buying then, and the Top 10 below is what I’d buy today, any day of the year. Each deal shows the store, the price and when that price was last checked. Amazon prices more than a day old aren’t shown; the card links to the live price instead.

What’s usually worth buying on Labor Day

Summer stuff on its way out

Stores clear out summer stock around Labor Day: grills, patio furniture, fans, summer clothes. If you’ll use it next summer and you have somewhere to keep it, end-of-season prices are worth a look.

Mattresses and big appliances

These get pushed hard on Labor Day. They’re also the categories where a crossed-out “regular price” means the least, so compare the price at two or three stores before you buy.

Big-ticket items that can wait

If a TV or laptop can wait, check the price again on Black Friday before you buy on Labor Day. The lower price could land on either date.

How to tell a real deal from a fake discount

A crossed-out “list price” is the store’s number, not proof of a deal. Two checks I use:

  1. Price history. Amazon’s own Price History link on the product page. A drop that only undoes a recent price hike isn’t a deal.
  2. The timestamp. Every price on SlickRish shows when it was last checked. If it’s hours old during a holiday sale, click through and look before you get excited.

When do Labor Day sales start?

It depends on the store. Some start days before the holiday and some run past it. I only list a store’s sale dates once the store announces them.

Are Labor Day sales worth it?

For things you already planned to buy, they can be. Check the product’s price history before you buy; on Amazon that’s the Price History link on the product page. A crossed-out list price on its own doesn’t prove a deal.

Is Labor Day or Black Friday better for deals?

There’s no rule that holds for every product. Some things are cheapest at the end of summer and some around Black Friday. If it can wait, check the price at both.
